Unlike the peptides encoded in the cell nucleus, MOTS-C is transcribed from the mitochondrial genome itself — a 16-residue open reading frame inside the 12S rRNA (MT-RNR1) gene, which is why it is classed with the mitochondrial-derived peptides rather than with the growth-factor analogs. Since its first description in 2015, laboratory interest has centred on metabolic signalling, the AMPK pathway and exercise-mimetic models, predominantly in cell-culture and rodent studies. DNA-LABS supplies it as a lyophilised white powder, 10 mg in a sealed vial, at 99% purity against the certificate of analysis for that lot. Reconstitute with bacteriostatic water immediately before use, keep the sealed vial at 2–8°C, and hold the reconstituted stock refrigerated and out of the light, avoiding repeated freeze–thaw cycles.
